The American Library Association Web site provides a list of commonly challenged or banned books. According to the Web site, books are challenged "to protect others, frequently children, from difficult ideas and information." A challenge means there is a movement to restrict or prohibit the reading of a book by a parent or group, whereas a ban means the book has been removed from a library or school curriculum.
