There's a new face on campus this semester: Michele Alaniz, librarian of instruction and web services.
Alaniz, 39. graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor's degree in Art History and received her Master's degree in Library Science at San Jose State University. She said that she had always been interested in working at academic libraries.
"I feel you can really help students at this level," Alaniz said when asked why she chose to work at an academic library.
During her undergraduate years at Berkeley, Alaniz worked as a library clerk in the campus library.
She has also worked as a librarian at De Anza College, and still works as a fill-in librarian in San Mateo County.
She is also a member of Califa Library Group, a non-profit organization aimed at serving California libraries and information services.
Alaniz said her favorite part of her new job at CSM is doing research and finding answers to questions, whether student-posed or otherwise.
She said she also enjoys working at the reference desk, because it is the "public service" part of the job, she said.
"If you need help finding any information, come to the library," she said.
