New faces will take on big roles in the 2009 to 2010 Student Senate.
Fall 2009 elections took place April 27 through April 30.
Senator Steffi Santana will become ASCSM President. Vice President will be Jorge Frias, 20, who ran against 2008 to 2009 Senator Kathleen Sheridan, 18.
"I plan to tackle the problem of under-involvement of students at CSM," said Santana. "The 2009 to 2010 AS are working on a social events calendar that will have at least one event every week."
Student Senators administer the use of funds from the student activities fee and student representation fee to hold events for students.
"We are hoping to be able to boost school spirit and inspire students to join leadership endeavors on campus," said Santana.
Student Senator, Ginamaria Q. Powell, 19, joined Senate in Spring 2009 and was re-elected for the Fall term.
"As senator in Fall I plan to encourage student spirit and unity through various social awareness events and forums," Powell said. "I will strive to find outlets for students to keep the Student Government informed about their worries and ideas."
"Our new Senate only took office Monday afternoon, so they have yet to set goals for the year," said Aaron Schaefer, coordinator of Student Activities. "Usually, the Senate sets their goals at their summer retreat."
This year's summer reatreat will focus on finding a way to connect with the student body, school spirit, student rights, and the understanding of ASCSM in late June according to Schaefer. ASCSM will meet every other week throughout the summer, starting June 8.
