The Bulldogs beat The San Francisco City College Rams on Saturday, Nov. 1, 30-24. This was the first victory against the Rams in 20 years.
The Bulldogs came out scoring on their first two offensive drives. The first coming solely from running back David Aknin, rushing 19 yards into the Red-Zone to set himself up for a 7-yard touchdown reception.
The second touchdown was a 4-yard run by running back Seta Pohahau putting the dogs up 14-7.
Another rushing touchdown by slot man Will Frazier late in the second quarter left the bulldogs with a 21-17 lead at the half.
San Mateo kicked three field goals in the second half to assure their first victory in 20 years against their long time rival.
The Bulldogs running game was too much for the Rams to handle, accumulating 308-yards on 63 attempts.
Aknin carried the ball for 144-yards, and shared carries with Pohahau who rushed for 113-yards on the day."Our Running game was unstoppable," said Slots coach Manny Orta, after the win.
Offensively, City College was able to accumulate 127 yards through the air on 24 attempts.
The Bulldog's run defense was able to hold them to only 127-yards.
Head Coach Bret Pollack attributed the defensive success to the play of the defensive line, as they took charge and did what they needed to do.
The defensive line was able to hit the quarterback 17 times, creating two sacks for a loss of 18 yards, and one interception in the red-zone late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for the Bulldogs.
"We ran hard, and the line blocked extremely well," said Pollack.
CSM needed a win coming off a 28-27 heartbreaker to Foothill the week before.
"For most of the team it was a one game losing streak, and for the sophomores it was a zero game losing streak. You just have to think of it as another game," said Pollack.
The Rams came into the game ranked #1 in the Northern California Conference, while the Bulldogs were #3, giving the Bulldogs the signature win they needed after losing to Foothill.
